• Banteay Srei: Travel north to the "Citadel of the Women." This pink sandstone masterpiece is uniquely famous because it was commissioned not by a king, but by a royal Brahman tutor. It is widely considered the jewel of classical Khmer art due to its miniature scale and incredibly deep, lace-like filigree carvings—so delicate that legend claims they could only have been carved by the hands of women.

08:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Exploration of Sacred Phnom Kulen

Upon reaching the mountain plateau, your guide will lead you through the park’s most significant cultural and natural highlights:

A Brief Glimpse:

Step away from the manicured lawns of Angkor Wat and venture into the raw wilderness of the Cambodian countryside to experience Beng Mealea, the ultimate “lost temple” of the Khmer Empire. Hidden deep within a dense canopy roughly 40 kilometers east of the main archaeological park, this sprawling 12th-century monument offers an authentic, crowd-free sense of discovery reminiscent of early explorers.  

The Architecture & Mystery:

Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II, Beng Mealea was constructed in the exact same classic architectural style as Angkor Wat and is widely believed to have served as its direct design prototype. Its name translates beautifully to "Lotus Pond," hinting at its grand original design that once featured massive water features, intricate cruciform courtyards, and elegant libraries.  

However, what makes Beng Mealea truly mesmerizing today is its completely unrestored state. While other temples have been carefully cleared, Beng Mealea has been left largely to the elements. It stands as a profound testament to the power of nature: titanic banyan and strangler fig trees burst directly through stone walls, massive sandstone blocks lie in chaotic, moss-covered heaps, and delicate carvings of Hindu mythology peek out from behind dense, creeping vines.
